Water getting in :/

Post by tedmcedd »

I guess this would go in this section!?

Its been raining heavily recently... ive been driving in the rain too, i noticed tonight that the rear passenger floor and carpet was soaking wet...

just this section, not on the drivers side or in the front anywhere, not even damp...

anyone know where this might be getting in!!?

thanks!

Ed

Check your grommets inthe bulkhead behind the passenger shelves, also the plastic membrane behind the door car is in place/intact.
There is a section on here about leaks

a few ideas:

rear windows (glass to seal and seal to car)
boot lock seal
rear lights
spoiler
rear badges
tailgate seal

I've been having this problem for ages too. The carpet behind/under the driver seat gets completely soaked when it's been raining.

Nowhere else shows any sign of even being slightly damp - no moisture around or near the bulkhead, all the other carpets and seats are completely dry, even the carpet walls surrounding the footwell are not even slightly wet. No moisture in the boot, around the windows or the sunroof (and the sunroof drainage works perfectly), just a big old puddle in the rear driver side footwell.

I'm completely stumped on this one so any suggestions much appreciated.

Fonzooroo has hit the nail on most of the culprits, all at the back. Water gets in at the back, runs along the grooves on the boot floor under the boot carpet (which is usually not touching the recess of the grooves on the underside so it just appears a bit wet) then the water rolls down onto the rear footwells. My leaks were the rear badges - fixed with new grommits and silicon sealer, and the 2 grommits securing the numberplate piece in the rear bulkhead just above where you lift the carpet - silicon to death!! :hehe:
Lift out the rear parcel shelf and carpet, fold the rear seat back forwards and get in the boot whilst your other half sprays the car with a hose pipe, the leaks will show up then. :hi:
