Post by liam »

Hello All

Ill be trying to sort out a new gearbox in the next few days. Im not expecting to find a scirocco down the scrapyard so im hoping some of you may now what other models share the same gearbox as my EX 1.8 carb rocco.

Any advice is welcome

I would also like to know this as I reckon my diff bearings are starting to go.

I know that the carbed Golf Cabby's have the EX engines but I suspect a lot of the 5 speed 8v gearbox's would fit anyway??
but it would be good to know a definitive list.

e.g a would a 91 mk2 Golf digifant one fit??

While I'm at it could someone point me/us to a good deal on a clutch kit that would be compatible? no doubt on ebay but ensuring the right purchase would be good :good:

MK1 Golf GTi's, Jetta GLi's and most of the Scirocco range will fit.

GSF sell LUK clutch kits, around about the £50 mark, less if a paid up member.

It depends on which age of car you have, but in general, Mk1 & 2 golfs with big block engines, and some Mk3 golfs. Some later SEAT Ibizass and so on might have something that fits, but I'm not sure about those.

You need to be careful on the following points:

1. Ratios - check the gearbox FAQs to see what ratios you have, and find something similar.
2. Output shaft sizes - 90mm or 100mm. You need to either buy one the right size, or change driveshafts to suit.
3. Clutch spline size - Mk2 Golf 16v and Mk3 Golf 8v GTI have a bigger gearbox input shaft, and you need to buy a clutch that matches the 'box, and your existing flywheel size.
