Hi - at the risk of upsetting those that do it - Don't match lowered springs with standard/existing suspension if you want to improve the cars handling or ride.

Save up for three months and get a half decent suspension kit eg Weitec or even some AP Coilovers.

or you can machine a set of dampers to suit your new lowered springs

..i just happen to have my set of -60mm and shocks about to coem off my car if your interested?!? ..the springs came from MarkH? from a car he scraped, and the shocks i brought new and machined my self, the ride isn't as good a coilovers, but its cheeper!

If you run hard lowered springs with old tired standard dampers, it'll be dreadful, but if you run a softer type spring, like Eibach, Vogtland, or similar, with new standard shocks, you'll get a good fast road setup.

I ran Eibach Springs and newish Boge Gas Shocks on a golf and it was awesome. Not really good for track though - too soft.

Make sure the supension bushes and the alignment is good too, or you're wasting your time.

A 20-40mm drop is about as low as you should go before you just trash the suspension geometry, and can't get over speed bumps without scraping along.
