Bits in oil...
Just topped up the oil, and on checking the level, found these on the dipstick:

They're hard plastic. No idea what they are.
Anything to be worried about? Anyone able to identify?

Checked it - and the handle on the dipstick itself. Both intact.

No idea then.
As to whether it is anything to worry about - unexplained solid objects in the oil would make me question what has broken?
I would probably drain the oil and drop the sump to see what else may be lurking in there.

I just can't think of anything plastic that would have disintegrated inside :/ At least it's plastic and not metal though! I'll drop the sump out soon...

Re: Bits in oil...
Have you ever changed the dipstick? The older type of dipstick with the metal handle have like a hard and soft plastic seal on it and no plastic guide, the newer ones have the plastic guide and a plastic handle. I have one of each type on my cars.
As Pete says though, drop the sump and have a look sooner rather than later.

I have the newer type - I just remembered that I had to replace the guide when I got the car as the old one was wrapped with Gaffer tape having broken in the past. Could be bits of the old one still in the sump. Either way, the sump will be taken off soon I think!

Re: Bits in oil...
It does look rather similar to the dipstick guide to me,
must be the remnants of the old one as you've said.

Re: Bits in oil...
Given the colour, if they're hard plastic, then it's a bit of the old dipstick guide. Sump baffles are all black, as far as I've seen.
If it's softer rubber, it could be an oil seal, but I don't think any of the genuine VAG oil seals are red, except maybe some parts of the rocker cover seals?
