Which strut brace?

Post by Jimbob »

Looking to fit a strut brace after reading how they will improve cornering, tyre wear and fun factor :yup:

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to pick one up?Looking to get one for £30 or thearabouts. Also any pointers for fitting would be fab.

I understand it's a fairly cheap and straight forward procedure but any advice from you chaps would be most welcome before getting stuck into it...

Cheers in advance

The best has got to be the K bar... But it's expensive!

A K bar from the VW dealers can still be ordered, it's about £186 though!

Keep an eye on german ebay and usa ebay, "k" bars pop up from time to time.

Do you recon this one would fit?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alloy-Front-LOWER ... 1753wt_905

Looks like it has an adjustment(not sure this is necesarry though) plus the central plate which presumably bolts on somewhere..= =

Also looking at the OMP one it is very reasonably priced too, I guess that means it's pretty damn heavy right?

Had a look round on ebay for k bars but nothing around at the mo, guess finding one will give me time to save the pennies....

Thanks for the help so far chaps :good:

That is for a MK2 Golf and wouldn't fit as the have a different subframe. You could look on the Volksbits website (They are always at the shows!) for a phone number and ring them to see what they do for a Scirocco.

For £30 you're probably looking at a steel one like OMP, unless you can get a 2nd hand alloy one.

If you got for an FK one....
One thing to be aware of is that there was some sort of problem with FK labelling of front and rear strut braces (I was told this mistake was made at the factory??). I found this out when I bought one. I ordered a front but received a rear, labelled up as a front. I'd have hoped they'd have sorted this out by now but you never know.

I just read in our very own buyers' guide that 16v Sciroccos were fitted with front lower strut braces as standard. I can't get on VAGCAT at the moment to check for a part number, but I'd be interested to know if they are available from VW, and what the cost would be.
