URGENT! Suggestions as to continued cause of Clutch problem

Hi folks. As I write this i am still not a very happy bunny .The car has been having a new clutch fitted today but I have just had a call from the garage telling me that the thing appears to be no better after the new one has been installed !. HAs any one got any suggestions as to why the clutch would be soooo stiff to operate even after a new 3 piece one has been fitted ?
I am getting rather P*ssed off at the mo as this is costing me in manhours (5 hours so far!) and I just want to get it sorted once and for all.
Just for reference it seems that the cable is ok (had it out of the car last week) and that the bulkhead repair is holding fine to. A new clutch fitted was the same as the original.....HELP !

Silly question, but are you 100% sure that all of the fittings at the gearbox end of the clutch cable are all present and correct and not damaged? It's urprising how many bits there are on it.

My brothers Mk2 Jetta had a REALLY stiff clutch. I replaced all the rubbers etc. on the gearbox end of cable and it sorted it.

Maybe check that the cable is coming square out of the box as well, do you have that clip onto the master cylinder to keep it in place?

agreed with dr dub....also the release bearing its self could be causing mischeif..........

Thanks for that mate . I just popped down and they are looking into the possibility that the operating rod in the housing has worn and need replacing. Also they are going to try another cable in case the one fitted is also damaged. Anyway, brake pads are done now and the cable (replacement) is going to go on 2moro so we will have to see.
Just one question Richie, does the Rocco have these same type of gearbox? I had all of the bushing replaced a couple of years ago if you mean the linkage.Which rubbers do you refer too ?

Release bearing is being replaced along with pressure plate and cover (3 parts).

If these parts are worn or missing, it can cause the cable not to pull up squarely. This can make the actuator arm (what the chap is holding in the pic) for the clutch rub on the gearbox casing making the action stiff.

Hi Richie.Mmmmm...not sure that some of those rubbers are even on the assy!. Any suggestions as to where I could get some from ?

All still available from VW, and not too expensive from what I remember. No guarantee to fix the problem, but worth looking into. Maybe get some from a scrap yard as a temp fix if they are missing from your car.

Yes these are available from the dealer, I changed all ofthese parts on both my cars.

Hi guys.Thanks for all the advice.I picked up the car at 6pm and it is a lot better, even without the rubber items (Oeerrr!) mentioned.I will pop into my local VAG dealership next week to see if i can get some sorted.

Now just got the issue of the MOT in December to worry about

Curious as to what made it a lot better? Was it the operating rod and g/box out again?
