windscreen cracked.
Hi.
So I met a truck the other day and my windscreen got cracked from this stupid rock. Since I live in Norway there are no donor cars atm.
I read somewhere on the internett that scirocco used the same windscreen as the golf and polo, can anybody confirm that? I have an 87' mk2.
windscreen nr: E20 43R-00340
thanks.

Re: windscreen cracked.
Hello Mailo,
You can forget using any other window.
The Scirocco window is only used for the Scirocco, the car roof is lower and it tilts further back than the Golf or Polo.
Good luck with finding one.
Grtz, Joost

Re: windscreen cracked.
Best bet would be to try a Windscreen service (like Autoglass)
They will probably have one, but it won't necessarily be cheap. Here you're looking at around £120-140 for a new one.
Not sure how the insurance companies work it out your way, but over here, Fully Comp insurance policies often have windscreen cover built in, which would save you some dosh.

Re: windscreen cracked.
I would be happy if I could pay £200 for a windscreen.
We have a site here that displays all used parts from every scrapyard in norway,at the moment there are only 10-12 parts for the mk2 in the entire country! not a windscreen offcourse. This is just my luck, just changed my clutch and changed all my brakes including drums and was readdy for EU-control(MOT).
So i have no idea what to do. Will call my dealer tomorrow and ask his opinion what do do further.
price here? used windscreen installation-£600. New windscreen £1200.
Also visited a windscreen-repair firm today, and the guy had a look at the crack and said since the crack was a littlebit longer than 1 cm it could not be fixed.
Will put an ad on every norwegian/swedish online car forum tonight and hope for some luck.
wounder what postage cost would be from UK to norway if even possible..
dear rocco.. :(

Re: windscreen cracked.
I do not think it will be easy to have one shipped over to you and recieve it in one piece.
I do have these windscreens over here in Holland, they are not original but are good replacements.
Prices are around €.160.- for a windscreen without new seal, shipping or placement.

Update:
Called Autoglass (thanks Funky diver) and arranged an apointment. The guy said that the crack was over 1 cm in the drivers area on the window so he would not recomend fixing it because of possible MOT fail. I convinced him that I had nothing to loose and he agreed to fix it. £50 and the chipp it almost not notisable. Just to be certain I will deliver the car to the MOT on thursday with both my sunvisors down to make the best of it
fingers crossed.

Good luck with it mate. If that doesn't work take a trip over to the UK, ferries to Newcastle I think and get it done here, would certainly work out cheaper than £1200!!! There are plenty of people here that will help you out.
(Autoglass are offering a good service, all the way to Norway!!! )
