Not forgotten! The car won't be ready, but I the wife and I hope to get along - probably in her Fiesta as I need to keep the Mazda wrapped in cotton wool until she get's traded in.

Also hope to see a few of you guys at Harewood this weekend.

:beers:

Hi Chris, congratulations on doing the decent thing and restoring an early mk2 to its former glory.

I'm turning an early one into a track car, so if there are any interior trim type bits you need, get in touch and I'll see if I can help :good:

One of our Dutch friends has remanufactured rear wheel arches, which from your pictures seem like they might be of interest to you.

Hopefully you'll keep us updated - maybe start a thread in the projects section?

Nice one Chris......I have just got me mitts on a Mk2 GT too, Its gonna need some interior bits and bobs once I get some loot together and some external work too, I think I will be scouring this forum as I am not mechanically minded in the slightest.

Good luck

J :yup:

Thanks,it's still at mums at the moment, just gotta get it moved up to us.
I'll be putting a full thread up about it later this evening, with a shed load of photos(not easy to do with a 4 year old hassling me every other minute lol)
Although it does roll easily, although it had help from a 4x4 and a tow rope lol

Welcome along Chris and J.

Nice to see someone else trying to bring an old GT back to life.

I'm not mechanically minded either, but am trying to resurrect my old Mk2 GT ... see the Project Poppy thread I've started in the aforementioned Projects section.

Good luck guys!

:beers:

Hello all. I'm Helen from North Yorkshire. I've always loved the look of the Scirocco so I've just bought a 1990 1.8 GT2. Having a lower budget I got one which is a bit of a rat (see my avatar!) You may have seen it on Ebay? I could actually get away with it as it is, but I prefer the original unmolested look! I plan to bring it back to its original state (white paint all round) and get a few niggles sorted (gear selection and rattle in suspension). Other than that it's got a Weber carb fitted, very tidy seats, no rusty areas and seems to be a good 'un! I also have a Mk1 Golf so I'm no stranger to most of the fixtures, fittings and components these Sciroccos have. :yahoo:

Hi Helen,

Where abouts in NY are you? There's a growing number of Yorkshire dwellers kicking up recently... I wonder if there was a Rocco sale I've missed out on (although technically I'm not in NY, lol)

Hi Helen, welcome along. Take a look in the diary section of the forum, there is a show in Durham at the end of this month (bank holiday weekend) and we have a Scirocco Register stand. If you would like to come along and get on the stand there is space and we would love to see your car.

Thanks for the welcome guys!
I live in Pickering so I'll be cruising in Scarborough a lot (my home town) and maybe York occasionally. I went to the Leeds VW Festival last weekend in my Mk1 Golf and admired the Sciroccos on display. Gives me a benchmark to aim towards! It's such a cool lookin car though, even my ratty one looks good! I do want to change the wheels though, they're 15'' Rover alloys??? Suit it ok to be fair, but they need spacers on the front, they're a bit of a pain in the arse. Would like some original VW ones like GTI 9-spokes or similar...what would a 1.8 GT2 have on as standard?
Thanks for the invite to the Durham show, but I'm working that weekend unfortunately. I'll definitely work towards making it to that show next year though, with my Scirocco lookin more how I want it to. :yup:

Shame you can't make the show as there are very few in the north. The GT2 came with 14 inch steel wheels as standard, but most 1980's and early 1990's VW wheels will fit, what fits a Golf/Jetta with 4x100 pcd will fit the Scirocco.
