9x16" Borbet A - possible?
Hi guys,
I’m currently running my Scirocco GTII on 7x15 Borbet A rims all round. The front wheels have a small metal spacer between the wheel and the brake plates.
I am looking to switch to 7.5x16” on the front and 9x16” on the rear, as seen here: http://www.potn.co.uk/borbet--a-crystal ... 024348.htm
The car currently sits on -40mm springs.
Is anyone else running a similar setup? Can this be done without problems? Any advise on this?

Been really tempted to change the T's for A's. I run 9s on the rear and 7s on the front. No brake issues but it needed arch work

I'm not sure about the 16#s, but if you do go for it what might be happening to the 15's?

I'm not a fan of Borbet A's, but 9x16 is more than possible, a little bit of clever arch work and you should be good to go

Cheers for the comments guys.
I see two of you have refered to 'arch work'. Would this me a minor modification of sorts or a full arch transplant for the rear? If it is the later, i may have to abandon this for now. Finances would not permit such an extravagant mod, with other things still to be sorted (speakers, gauges etc). If I can do this at the cost of the wheels, then recoupe some of that cost by selling the current rims (with new tyres just fitted) then i will. So I suppose the question is, how much of this 'arch work' would be required to fit the 4 new wheels?
Ash, the 7x15" wheels would be sold.

The arch work isn't a massive job and there's a few good Bodyshops/garages that'll do it for about £50 a corner. I know that The Phirm have done loads of cars on here and my own local garage does it but I'm in Kent so that may not be practical.
The front is quite easy as all it needs is the poo shields removing, everything cleaning and sealing. Don't muck about with the sealant either, make sure yo get a good coat of it everywhere otherwise you'll get problems later.
The rears are a bit different though. Standard issue is to cut the metal lip, heat the plastic body kit and fold it back on itself then seal everything. It keeps everything firm and stop the kit flapping about.
I've got 16's and it's pretty low. You'd expect the ride to be a bit harsh but it's absolutely fine

Do you have a buyer for them yet? If not what sort of price would you be after?

Cheers Mr Funk.
At first I thought said operation would be a bit hairy and high risk, but a few other people have said that it is fairly standard fare. I think I will consult with one of the local vw specialists with a view to doing it and go from there.
Ash - I would probably be looking about £300 for the four wheels (including new fitted tyres). Obviously I was initially thinking of selling within Northern Ireland to avoid inevitably postage, but if someone else was interested that would be no problem.

Hmm, I would definitely be interested if you did come to sell them at that price. Do you have any idea what sort of price delivery would be?
I never saw the Belfast bit be fore I must admit!
Cheers

Get in touch with Junglist, he has access to a courier service, I have used it quite a few times and it is spot on (and a good price).

Monsuer Funk... What offsets are you running on those? The combination you're running is precisely where I wanna be, but don't fancy spending £800 on wheels to go and get the wrong offset
