engine oil leak BAD
hi all, had a great time at the meet up cosford yesterday but on the way back ome i could smell burning oil. ive got a leak some where on the back of the block close to the bell housing ie on piston 4 area at the back of the block. its gone on the exhaust which was causing the smell but what sort of gaskets or components are there in that area that could lose oil/ i lost about half pint just going the 50 mile there and back to cosford.... any input would be great. because its at the back of the block i will have to get it up the ramps to see. im thinking it must either be the sump gasket weeping onto the offside drive shaft which is trousers it everywhere. or from further up the block. could it also be the crankseal behind the clutch? the gearbox is using oil but i know why that is, this is a new leak.
after i made it look so pretty for the show this appens, thats gratitude!lol

first suspect gasket for me would be the rocker cover one ...very easy to replace, very cheep to buy.

Even easier to fit the MK3 Golf one, all one piece and made of rubber, buy from the dealer for about £15.Jay4424 wrote:first suspect gasket for me would be the rocker cover one ...very easy to replace, very cheep to buy.

Re: engine oil leak BAD
that will be a gud idea as there does seem to be a small leak on the one side. ive given the engine a gud clean and left it running for half hour to see if it would leak, so far the only leak is the gearbox oil. i think i will just have to change the rocker cover gasket and monitor it. oh well all fun n games aint it!
