Reversing lights not working :(

Post by eefy »

Backed on the drive tonight and was told by the other half both reversing lights were'nt working checked the bulbs both seem fine, checked the fuse, again no problems

all i can think is the switch for the gear selector is faulty, so my question is, is this likely and if so where is it and how do i get to it??? Haynes is useless

Cheers

The reversing light switch is on top of the gearbox, should have 2 wires going into it. Be fortunate that it isn't the same switch as on an early injection model with gear change meter, these are £35 plus VAT!

On early MK2's (my Storm being one of them!) there is a gear change and fuel economy meter within the clocks. The reversing light switch and this gauge are combined and as I said they are £35 plus VAT from the dealers.

It probably does work on vacumn for the mpg but it has an orange light that comes on to tell you when to change up!

ive got the same problem. the wires going to the multiplug connecter on the switch have been cut and replaced with female spade conecters, these keep rusting up and giving me a bad conection, because if i wiggle the wires the lights come back on. :ire:

I might be able to sort you out the multiplug and some heatshrink if you need it? How handy are you with a soldering iron? If not, and you can wait a wee while, I'll pull out the whole loom and you can have that...

The ones for the mpg gear change light are just to stop the light coming on in 5th gear.
