Brake Discs - 8 or 16 grooves??
What would serve better on a track car - 8 or 16 grooves? Bearing in mind they will be drilled, too.

Be careful with drilled disks, the holes are a stress raiser so if you get very high temps (which you will on track) they can crack and then shatter

So you would recommend going for grooved only??walkinginperu wrote:Be careful with drilled disks, the holes are a stress raiser so if you get very high temps (which you will on track) they can crack and then shatter

tbh with modern pads you get very little gas generation so you just don't need drilled disks. I suspect Porsche still do it for weight loss/looks as much as braking performance.
Grooved will keep your pads clean, but so will braking like a real man.
I had a set of Carbotech pads on the legnum and had a long chat with the guy that makes them (mostly for the lancer Evo crowd). When I asked him what disks they worked best with for fast road use he told me to go with plain vented OE disks.

Also, using grooved/drilled disks will increase the wear on the pads. You'll go through them a lot quicker than using standard disks.
Sorry to sound like such a skinflint. Scottishness showing through.

I much prefer plain vented and have used them with fast road pads on quite a few track days without any problem
Drilled discs crack under stress and i'm unconvinced on grooved. But i've just fitted a pair as hey have stopped doin plain in my size
