Vossies slightly modified mk2

Post by Vossie »

After the mk1 restoration I got a bit bored, and needed a new project,
this is the mk1 which is kept completely stock.

Image
(I posted a build topic of this one on the "old" forum, I'm afraid that
topic sleeps with the fishes)

This time I wanted to do more modifications, so I went out and bought this old shed
Image
Image

And this is how it looked when I was done with it

A '82 scirocco GT, 1.5-5 speed Engine was a bit tired, but the bodyword and interior were in
good condition.

I fitted different headlights, and a front bumper without the huge wash nozzels

The AAZ engine and gearbox fitted

Tried to fit a 16v radiator, but the bottom opening was right in front of the alternator

Electrics were modified as well since I wanted to use the later type fusebox,
a golf mk2 cockpit wich rev counter and the original vento engine-wiring.

First some electric studies
Image

An then got to soldering and rewiring
Image

Ripped out the old wiring
Image

And started putting the new, looks a bit messy, picture taken during testing

Time to check the underside, needed a bit of extra space so the mk1
got some fresh air
Image

Proper off-the-road hight
Image

removed all the old black protective stuff
Image
Image

Car gathered a bit of dust (posting a topic takes less time than doing the actual work)

Body did need some minor welding

And a few little other rust hole, rust cutted out and fresh metal welded in so it
should be a Ok for the years to come

I started working on the exhaust, i used a golf mk2 16v rear damper and
a scirocco 16v middle damper. They have a nice diameter so the turbo
can breathe easily.

Both parts needed modification to fit the old type mounting points

First lining it all up
Image
Image

And welded up, also a custom downpipe

Modified a golf mk2 airclaener to fit the scirocco
Image

And installed.
Image

I used a golf mk2 boot window-cleaning-fluid-reservoir (I assume there is a better word for it)
it had the ideal shape

Bigger brakes were fitted, scirocco front 16v brakes and golf IV brakes at the back
Pain in the *** to bleed the system because the calipers ar up-side down, but once
all the air is out it brakes like a dream.
