that when driving the brm a build up of steam on the two extra vdo instruments in place of the ashtray and stereo display is related to a less than healthy heater exchanger - damp underlay too...........

it's be a reasonable guess. there's a chance it could be the hoses going to it - i can't remember if the rubber hoses go inside the cabin or it the tails from the heater matrix poke into the engine bay.

is it using coolant? if yes, it's almost certainly a glitch in the matrix

ok, i'll be slightly more helpful. if you get yourself a hose joiner like this (check size before buying, think you'd want a 12mm one, but don't quote me on that )and disconnect the 2 water pipes in the engine bay and then join the ends together (make sense?) then at least you will stop the water leak until you can get a proper repair done and keep the car driveable, if somewhat cold on the inside

i wouldn't recommend the use of Radweld*, but i'm sure you wouldn't do that to one of your motors anyway

It's only the matrix if you're losing coolant too.

i would think that it is more likely to be coolant, as a slight weep (as opposed to full on leak) would tend to come out as steam - easier to get inside things. i'd also guess that your cars don't actually see rain that often.

probably worth taking out the offending electrickery and putting it in the airing cupboard for a few days

Have exactly the same prob in mine,just thought it was cos i am not using it much,also get condensation in the dash,think my sunroof seal is gone though,as i get water dripping off the top bar of the cage.
Not 100% sure my cage is for a sunroof roc either,as i am sure i can see a sort of ripple at the front of the roof.Heater motor packed up a few months ago,so may be getting wet too
