Ratty

Post by vwjohn81 »

Good day! * or late sleepless night? *

I was thinking of doing my bonnet the standard rusty rat look as its peeling its laquer and I wanted to experiment abit more than just doing a swap for one the same colour.

How would I go about making it rusty? - when I say that I mean nice and weatherproof so it wont rot thru..... is it just the case of stripping back the paint, letting it rust and then laquering it??

:pilot:

Get out! Get out now!

Yeah, get the paint off then get some lacquer on there before the rot sets in and it should last.

haha well I know its a bit of a marmite idea..... but the way I look at it is if im gonna be buying a new bonnet anyways why not?

I will obviously keep the new bonnet to go back on it

Cheers for the advice - will post pics if I decide to do it and let you all vote lol.

The other thing to consider is that if you do strip the paint back to go with the rat look, just think you are half way there to getting the bonnet resprayed.
Just a thought.

Yea this is very true - just fancy something a little different to make it stand out because its a stock helios blue scala at the moment..... but I dont want to and cant afford to go down the route of serious modifications, plus a bonnet is just a bonnet and if I end up selling it I can put it back to standard easily.

I do appreciate and respect the old dubs so wont be doing anything that cant be put back to way it was before.

Slightly off subject but check out the before and after pics of the MK2 Golf I had :yup: - I miss my golf loads.... it was my 1st dub and the one I fell in love with.

Check out www.cosmic-color.de as they do a range of "rust paint", not cheap mind but looks real good.
