Hi, I've got a gt with a 1600 in it. I will be driving along and the revs will just start dropping and then it dies. The revs carry on dropping even when my foot is to the floor.
The car will start again if i wait 3or4 minutes. But i can drive for 30minutes before it happens sometimes. Now its been happening for a week and a half and the car just feels like the acceleration is more restrained that it used to be.
The cars running on a peirburg 2e2.
Any advice would be much appriciatedThanks.

I think your main cuprits are:
1) Rust in the fuel lines (check the in-line filter in the engine bay)
2) Ignition amplifier (under the scuttle cover - overheats and delivers no spark to plugs, starts working again when cooled down)
3) ...someone else can take over here...

Rusty fuel neck/clogged fuel line or knackered Pooberg.

Probably down to crud and water in the fuel tank. Check the condiion of the fuel filler neck, and also remove the fuel sender unit out of the top of the tank and have a look in the tank for signs of dirt, rust and water.
What happens is, as you drive along, the fuel pick up pipe in the tank gradually blocks up with crud until the fuel stops flowing, the car dies and stalls. The reason it will start again after a few minutes is because as the fuel pump is not sucking up fuel, there is no vacuum in the fuel pipes, so the blockage just falls back into the tank, ready to be sucked up again when you start driving again.
The best course of action is to replace the filler neck (if it is knackered) drop out the fuel tank and completely wash it out with clean fuel, clean out the fuel lines and fit new filters. If you are competant enough mechanically, you should also take off the carb, open it up and give it a clean .
if you do drop the fuel tank out. its also a good time to replace the rear flexi brake hoses and poly bush the rear beam, as you need to drop the beam to get the tank out.

To see if it's a vacuum problem, try driving with the fuel cap off for a bit.
