When starting

Post by gearyboy »

When starting my scirocco i have to give it a bit of gas, if i start the engine without, it turns over and dies. is this just a normal thing or is there something i should be looking at? Runs perfectly otherwise just needs a bit of throttle when starting.

Pretty normal, I'd say. Starting from cold or hot?

The instruction manual even states to use a small amount of throttle when starting the engine.

If you stick some decent fuel system cleaner in it like slick 50 it might help. It did on mine a few years ago, worth changing the fuel filter too.

Is it an injection or carb?

If injection are the symptoms similar to this?:

Its injection, no its not like the above thread, just needs a bit of gas to start, once going its runs great. Without gas it starts and stops straight away. Ive only had the car two weeks but since posting this thread i have noticed it is cold start only
