Hi Guys n Gals

:newbie:

I'm an old, but not too old dubber thats got a bit bored of the topend watercooled show scene !
Having sold my last two show cars a 2001 passat estate, slammed on TH Lines, and a 1999 Audi 80 Cabrio, this was beautiful, on its arse, pretty much undrivable as a daily...lol.

I've been after a Mk1 Skyrocket for ages now, looked at a few over the last couple of years, but they've all been rotters and i've managed to walk away....

Yesterday i could'nt........

In the deepest of W.Sussex lies a black 1980 storm in an open garage, solid as you like, with a green one in front of it for parts, next to these were two rado's, one good , one for parts... next to these, a covertable Rover P6

i was like a kid in a toy shop !!

The owner 66 years old, a proper hoarder, has bits everywhere...must have just kept buying stuff then not really doing anything with it all !

So ..after a good look around the black rocket, not a speck of rust anywhere, just loads of dust and storage gunk, we fired her up...went first time :yahoo:

Overheated within 5 min , but oilcap not milky, and dipstick looking nice and unmilky, i'm praying for a stuck thermostat, she's been stood for 15months

So...i chucked a deposit at him..lol.

Gonna collect on a flatbed this week, theres also the fact that i'll have some spare parts if any of you guys want anything (runs for cover as a herd of enthusiasts come thundering at me !!) as i'm gonna have the spare storm too

Fr wings, doors, bonnet, tailgate, black leather int, glass.. plus alsorts of stuff that i cant list at mo obviously, give me a shout with whats needed.
I didnt have a camera with me, but i'll update you all with the progress and get some pics of the spares donor too .

Speak Soon Y'all

Nick

It didn't look too bad , i can give more of an idea later this week, i'll take some pics when i collect the first car !

The car was full of spares when i had a peep, i reckon a good clean will give it a new lease of life, its been stood for a while !

I won't want the earth for it, for sure !

Update on the situation down here..... collected the first one on monday, which i threw to the mercy of the MOT, failed on just a few lighting issues like bulbs and fog light not working.

Two bits of welding on the rear suspension mount and seatbelt anchor

driverside seatbelt enertia not working.......Thats all !!!

I'm quite happy with that !

I'm not gonna collect the second one until i've got the black on the road which'll only be a short time, i'm not gonna hang about on it
(want it done yesterday :diablo: ) !!!

I''l get some pics up shortly too, i just havnt had time to kill on my pc this week, its been hectic.

I've finally managed to get some pics up to my photobucket acc,

Been at this little project most days after my mornings work...lol. (i sound lazy !!??!!) I Start at 4am !

Weather has been a bit of an issue, but we plodded on as best we could.

Here's where i found it, been sat there since 2002, taken for an MOT last year in June, then never used.

Heres a few more,
Interior shot...seems to look cleaner than it really is.
Image

Image

who needs a garage with walls, doors, heaters......Trolley Jacks, ramps.

Image

Image

The welding that needed doing was up behind the fuel pump and where the rear beam was bolted to, proper holey it was

Image

When the weather got bad, we improvised....

Image

Image

Meet Sy...my welding guru !
Image

Image

Image

this is the new plate tacked in before welding up....

Image

Image

Sy dressed it all in neatly then i undersealed the area ready to get it all back together again.
Image
The coillies turned up last monday so those got wacked on while still up on the amazing stand we'd nicked from a powdercoaters on the estate

Image

Image

while we we at it the rear bearings got re newed, the shoes were good, so we just replaced the cylinders, all brake lines are good.
we bled off the brakes with new brake fluid, got to the last caliper and.........PING, the nipple blasted thing broke off :ire:

Here we go... a massive plug to the guys at VW Heritage, they had a front mk1 caliper in stock, on the shelf....with my name on it !
Previous to this visit i'd furnished myself with a couple of bodypanels from them, and ......THE WHEELS !!!!!
So back to the car, caliper replaced, all done and good.

I've given it an oil change, oil filter, fuel and air filter, while its been up on afore said ramps...lol.

Here's the finished result...after about 40 hours of amateur slogging about in the rain

Any comments welcome, sorry about the pony iphone pics

More Slam, smaller front tyres, clean up the interior, polish, wax just got to sort some lighting issues and emitions for the MOT, once i can drive it on the road, i'll be happy for a short while.
Was wanting smaller and wider wheels to be honest, but i just couldn't resist these fuch's. they'll be good for winter as the chrome has a two year guarantee, and its not so low for the run around, though i am gonna go lower when i get the smaller front tyres this week.

I SOOOOOOOO want some chrome bumpers, will not be happy until I have some :ebay:
