My bonnet has a serious case of lacquer peel .

However it is totally rust free and straight, and the colour seems to be fine.

Is it possible to rub down all the lacquer and re-apply with Halfrauds finest cans? I'm not a cheapskate, just go to watch the pennies at the moment, and I was guessing my bonnet couldn't possibly look any worse!

If you rub down the bonnet to remove the lacquer you will likely remove a layer or two of paint, requiring a repaint of the bonnet anyway.

I should think for the price of the amount of paint and lacquer you need from Halfords you could pay the local bodyshop to put a new top coat of paint and lacquer on the bonnet, especially if you removed it, rubbed it down and delivered it yourself.

thanks for the advice!

I was actually wondering if the silver colour on the rest of the car had faded over the years, and if I had my bonnet resprayed, it might end up a different shade! Hence why I was asking if I could get away with a lacquer only....

I'll get a quote in the next week or so and post back.

I reckon a local bodyshop would charge around £400 ish to re-paint the bonnet, and they should have to blend the wings being Silver.
get it painted in a oven, if not you could end up with the same as you have now in a few years.

Never try with Halford rattle cans you will never get a good result as the paint has to be so thin to get into the can to begin with and will take longer then a bodyshop would take.
