Engine swap

My 87' mk2 needs a new engine, the old 1.8i "JH" has done its job. Found a local selling an "RP" passat engine, never heard of this one but according to this picture it is identical to my JH:

the specs are the same: 1.8 , injection.
Will this be an easy swap?

Surprised you have a JH engine, as I have never come across this engine in the UK before (well, apart from my Mk1, which is a German import). In Germany these engines were quite common to meet the rising demand by the government for CATs, and the tax incentives that they were offering mid 80s for people to start buying CATted cars.

The thing to check is whether your JH still has mechanical tappets or already has the hydro tappets. Unlike the DX, where the changeover took place in 1985, the changeover from mechanical to hydro tappets for the JH took place mid 1987.

Surprised you have a JH engine, as I have never come across this engine in the UK before (well, apart from my Mk1, which is a German import).
