Removing External Door Handle

Post by hiltow »

Is it possible to remove the external door handle from a Scirocco Mk2 without having to remove the interior door card first?

Haynes manual says that the interior door card has to be removed first, but I can't see why it has to as the remainder of the instructions just involve levering out the chrome trim to reveal two screws holding the handle to the door.

It needs to come off to do some paint repairs to the door.

yes. there is a large cross head screw on the door side near the catch. there is also a small screw on the outside, theyll be a plastic/ chrome strip along front of handle, pry that off taking care and theyll be a small screw on the forward end of it. the handle then comes off. you can still open the door by pushing the lever in the handle hole down with your finger

Thanks guys - that's good news that the door card doesn't have to be removed first.
