Dashboard Windscreen De-misting Vent Fittings

Post by RussGLAuto »

Afternoon gents,

I was idly browsing some Mk1 Golf's (!) online the other day when I came across a shot of the dashboard windscreen de-misting vents. Instead of the usual Scirocco empty slots, there were to be seen some very nice plastic vent inserts.

Were these forgotten about on the Scirocco by VW? The empty slots just look unfinished. Out of interest, although the incorrect length, I bought a couple of them from VW Heritage which do vent packs for the Golf.

Aside from being obviously too short, they fit perfectly well being the correct width and fit snug into the slot ends. I have attempted to include a shot to show what I mean.

With these seemingly missing from the Scirocco's dash, it's easy to see how the dash is so susceptible to splitting, as mine also has at the ends of the vent slots as there is nothing to prevent the dash material from lifting and splitting further.

Any ideas or budding 3D printing enthusiasts willing to rise to the challenge? I did think of splicing some together for the correct length but that would look like a dogs dinner knowing my luck!

They are a good idea and I guess it would be worth someone making some if it’s a common problem on a Mk2 Scirocco.
I’ve got some fitted to my Mk1 Golf as the dash material lifted over time and blocked the vents which is not a great help on a daily drive.

Right gents,

chopperoli's best mate has come up trumps. Have rxd and fitted the 3D printed set of dash vents and they are PERFECT! They may well protect the dash from lifting and cracking further / at all... genius!

I think these need to be sent to VW Heritage as an aftermarket part?

They look good and well worth fitting to stop the dash vinyl peel.

They are OK aren't they! He's made a few things now including a really sweet spherical gear linkage, will be offering them for sale on ebay for now

They do look good, the top cold be rounded of a bit to make them look less masive and flow more flush, just an idea.

Got a set and they are well made.

Only snag is that as my dash is cracked and it's also lifted around the vent holes a little so some of them don't quite sit properly.

It's not an issue with the design just more that it'll help with the lifting around the vents but don't expect them to work miracles.

I'll try warming the dash in those areas and then try fitting them to see if that helps when I get chance.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but these inserts are great, is there anywhere I can get my hands on a set?
