I have just done a quick door card mod which i thought i would share with people.
my door card insert was looking a little tired so i thought i would re-trim it, this is how i did it.
*this is just what i have done, its not the gospel etc. and there may well be a better more professional way, so if you copy me and it all goes a bit squiffy please don't blame me!
tools n parts
-hoover
-vacuum storage bag, 90x50cm atleast
- stretchy fabric, mine is a stetchy fake suede from fleabay
- spray contact adhesive, i used carpet adhesive but theres probably a better alternative
- scissors
how i did it
1. remove door card and pull the insert off, mine just fell off which was handy.
2. clean the insert if possible
3. cut material to size, make it a fair amount bigger than the insert.
4. place material over insert, put in the vacuum bag for a dry run to ensure size is correct and everything works
5. spray the glue (as per manufacturers instructions) on both the insert and rear of the fabric
6. wait for glue to go tacky and place the fabric over the insert
7. place in bag and vacuum it.
8. i then played about and manipulated it a bit to ensure the fabric is in contact with all the recesses
9. leave to dry. i waited 15 mins as im very impatient, could probably have been better to leave it longer
10. remove from bag and trim areas as needed.
this is what ive ended up with.
