All sorts of things every time I touch it [emoji16]

Today I noticed it does not have an expansion tank fitted, the Haynes book of lies states I should have one and a sealed radiator, but I have no tank and a filler on the rad????
But that's tomorrow's job [emoji2]

I’ve got a top fill rad fitted to my 20vt, they are early golf radiators, should be fine

An '82 car will have lots of Mk1 (Scirocco/Golf) bits. The Haynes is mainly based on the post-'85 models. Your car wouldn't ever have had the expansion tank.

Yeah, I'm finding that, luckily I have had a couple of gti's in the past so have various books to help me out.

Just as an aside while I'm sitting here with a coffee, is there a m plate decoder for the scirocco? I know on the old buses and campers there is a site where you input all your m plate data and it gives you build date, options etc. Does such a thing exist with these cars?
I'd love to know how early my car is as it's the first year of the mk2.

I’ve never heard of there being one but I may be wrong. I’m sure one of the guys will know more on it.

You can decode the option equipment listed on your sticker in the boot and service book here:

http://igorweb.org/equidec.aspx

There's not much you can decipher from the VIN other than the model, model year and location of manufacture etc.

Requesting the birth certificate and build sheet from Volkswagen would be the best option, around £90 and a few months wait.
