You can temporarily bypass them by removing them, mark them first on both the sender unit and underneath the car. Get a helper to gently wiggle at the top end whilst your underneath that way you won't confuse the pipe orientation, hopefully. Add two pipes and go through the bung under the foam seat insert. It's a bit tight on the sender to fit them so warm the pipes in hot water and add a bit of lube. They won't fit in the standard orientation but will work.Eagle1 wrote:I've recently renewed my fuel pipes, carb car. It wouldn't start. I found my problem to be the concerned with the two pipes out of the sender. After replacing them the car started. Now I've only got to deal with the wonderful Pierburg end of life

Re: Intermittent shuddering
Just to double check. Is this the correct seal for the fuel tank sender?

Does anyone know where I can get another sender unit in case this one breaks when removing it?

Re: Intermittent shuddering
it should be a standard oring that presses into the back of the pump, you will need 2 as the spacer block behind it also needs on o ring.
I dont mind project cars but I HATE SANDING!!!

Re: Intermittent shuddering
Original cap fits, You won’t need any new seals, possibly some new jubilee clips depending on the condition of yours.Lukeh17 wrote:Thanks will have a lookmark1gls wrote:Not sure on where to get a new fuel tank sender, try searching Mk1 Golf cabriolet as well?

Re: Intermittent shuddering
If you are replacing the fuel filler neck I would recommend you replace the rubber hose between the filler neck and fuel tank, they can become very brittle over time.
With the o ring on the fuel pump I searched the part number and size on line and then ordered a O ring from ebay, just make sure the o ring is ok with the heat and oil.
Part number and sizes.
I think its 049 127 311 A search part number online and 36 x 2.5mm comes up, I searched for a 1989 Mk2 Scirocco.

something like this but please double check... (lots on ebay etc)

Thanks for the advice regarding the rubber hose between fuel filler neck and tank as well as the o-rings.
In the meantime, I may have found a fuel sender unit
