Awesome work on that car.
However, it does beg the question - when does a Scirocco stop being a Scirocco? To me, that's a Scirocco-shaped kit car.

That’s true, it’s a cage with an engine, running gear etc and a Scirocco body popped on the top.
It’s the same for most rally cars now a days, they look similar to any road going car but underneath the skin they are a completely diffrent animal.![Very Happy :-D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: Mk2 rally car...
Silhouette, I think, is the word. There was a saloon car championship that raced at a lot of the meets we used to go to with the 2cv Racing series back in the early 2000s. It was regularly won by a Skoda 110R... beating V8 Rover SD1s and various other apparently more powerful machines. Not much of it was actually a Skoda any more.mr.brown wrote:To me, that's a Scirocco-shaped kit car.

Re: Mk2 rally car...
I would have liked to see it mid engine rear drive. Group B had some monsters that weren’t 4wd.

Re: Mk2 rally car...
Very interesting stuff, OP. Reading the full article debunks a few comments made on here though!
Ultimately, people always seem to mix personal feelings towards the projects of others. I don't quite get this. One builds a car such as this for oneself, clearly!
It's all good though. Opinions are one's entitlement.
Not that much it seems. Builder states $9,000 CAD which equals to about £5,000, including the price of the car.Jack92 wrote:...but all I can see is £ signs lol
The builder never claims it as a rocco. It's not even in the title of the article! He says somewhere that the goal was not to build a Group B Scirocco but rather use one as a base for his vision of a rally car. I recall he mentions the silhouette procedure quite clearly.mr.brown wrote:However, it does beg the question - when does a Scirocco stop being a Scirocco? To me, that's a Scirocco-shaped kit car.
It's his car, his prerogative. The article explains his difficult choices as he didn't have a blank sheet nor an unlimited budget to work with.Jack92 wrote:Yeah that is a very good point, but they did choose the correct body all the same hha
Considering the article states attempting to beat a record made on snow, isn't 4wd logical? It's a more versatile rally car that way. The site about Group B is impressive, too. The guy has obviously extensive knowledge about the topic, I bet more than anyone of us, especially to build a fully space-framed rally car from the ground up!moser wrote:I would have liked to see it mid engine rear drive.
