Post by Yolandi2 »

Hi all, currently having trouble selecting 1st and very often crunches going into 2 unless you do it very slowly, I've read that it's possibly the linkage bushes and I've searched for a kit to do it but in a bit confused what exactly in looking for for my car, can someone point me in the right direction?
Model is in my signiture :)

That is the full kit. You can get kits without the rods and ball bit if yours are ok, but if they have never been done it would be worth replacing the lot.

I can't vouch for the quality of this exact kit as I've never used them, it was just the first one I found on ebay, but this is what you'll need.

If crunching going into 2nd gear it's not the bushes at fault, it's a common problem of worn synchromesh in the gearbox.
If the gearbox oil has not been changed recently it's worth changing in as it's very often over looked.
There's a drain plug underneath the gearbox and a filler plug on the side near the green cap which you can see if you turn the wheels full lock left.
17mm Allen key or you can buy a socket from eBay for a few £s
I changed to fully synthetic oil and it helped a lot with the gear change but still need to go slowly from 1st to 2nd but a improvement with a oil change.

Gearbox oil I've used.

2 bottles is plenty as you will struggle to get the 2L in recommended, I used 1 and 1/2 L and I had the gearbox off the car and tipped it up the drain all the oil out.
You will need some sort of funnel to fill the gearbox as it needs to be on level ground and you fill he gearbox up slowly till the oil comes out the filler hole then screw in the plug, I did jack mine up just a little to add a little bit more.

Check you can remove the filler plug before draining the old gearbox oil or you will be stuck not able to drive the car anywhere.

Great site and every thing you ever wanted to know about the gearbox.
