front brake flexible hose, Mk 2.

Post by Jerry Atric »

Anyone had problems with sourcing front brake flexible hoses for Mk2 Sciroccos?

Bought a set from Germany and they were wrong, then a set from Eurocar Parts and they are also wrong. The ones on the car have a flat "face" where they fit into the brake calliper, but the two sets I've been sent have a concave recess in the front of the part that screws into the calliper and also the thread is too long, such that the brake hose protrudes and does not screw up hard against the calliper.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and if so, where they then got their brake flexible hoses from ?

Thanks for the reply, yes the part number I used to search for the part before ordering I got from 7ZAP . However, having ordered one set from Germany and then another from Eurocar parts, the two ends are different....BUT not correct.

As for the calliper, I have no idea ( yet) what calliper is fitted ,but plan to go to the garage where the car is at the moment and remove the brake hose . Will check for calliper markings then.

So on the right is what i have and on the left this is what is sent as the correct replacement part. Anyone care to suggest whether it will be a suitable replacement ?

Have you a picture of the calipers and did it have VWII stamped on it.

If you can upgrade to braided hoses from the standard rubber ones, braided hoses make the pedal feel harder and they come with a lifetime warranty.

Calipers like this?

Hi Mark, sorry no picture of the calliper....had to drive over to my local one man garage where the Scirocco is sitting waiting for more work to be done on it. I removed the rubber hose and looked at the calliper for a sign of manufacturer expecting to see Girling or Lockheed, but just saw in a heavy stamp VW. It might have had II stamped after it , but didn't take that much notice to be honest, once I'd seen the VW bit. Wont get another chance to look at the car until next Thursday now. Tomorrow the "best" of my three is in for its MOT so will see if it really qualifies for the title " best" !! Fingers crossed.

As for the brake hoses, I just want a pair of brake hoses the same as the one on the right in my picture, but where to get them is a bit of a mystery as everyone is supplying a part the same as the one on the left in the picture.....i.e. with a cup shape in the end.

p.s. sorry can't relate the picture link to my callipers I'm afraid......

Fairly sure I got them from these guys - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK1-M ... XQWzNSeNTA

Was a couple of years ago, so can't be sure.

Tried them, but they say they only supply the ones with the cupped top.....very strange.

Have googled Brax, but not a lot of luck so far. :-(

Have you tried 'hel'? I think mine came from rally design, but that was years and years ago.

Thanks for that link, but those prices are way outside my budget for getting this "heap" back on the road.
Spent approaching £1200 and the car is still not yet running so every penny counts . If I was planning a show car , then maybe this sort of expenditure would be acceptable, but restoring a car on a pension is always going to involve compromise.

However, I appreciate the explanation and link, many thanks again. :-)
