Mk2 Storm Fuel Neck Filler

Hi all,

Pretty new to this, inherited this Mk2 Storm from my Grandparents. I loved the car growing up and family agreed I should have it. Has been in a barn and not run for about 7 years. Gave it a full service, changed various bits and ran it for a few weeks last year - Love it! Blue Leather in great nick. Car is good and I think it will go on, I hear there are very few Mk2 Storms around so feel free to add this to the data.

I am in process of returning to former glory, it has a few blemishes and small rusting but overall its great.

I am in need of a new Fuel Neck filler as this one is rusted badly and leaks when filling. - any ideas??

They do come up from time to time, but snapped up quickly as it's a common problem.

You might need to check your tank too for rust, clean possibly as you don't want to run rust through the fuel system.

Be good to see some pictures of the interior too! Most leather interiors are pretty cracked and worn!

Thanks very much, fuel tank seems good think it may have had a new one at some point..

You can modify the fuel filler neck for a mk1 golf cabriolet to fit a mk2 scirocco, but you will have to use a different fuel cap. It's a common conversion as the original scirocco item is not available. Nice to see an A-plate Storm, that's a very early registration as most were registered on a B-plate. Did your grandparents buy it new?

As others have said, clean out the tank thoroughly as rust will definitely have dropped into it and it can cause lots of running problems. The best way is to remove the tank completely to clean it out, which also allows you to check it thoroughly for rust if its own, which is also common. Some people fish for rust with a magnet into the tank, but this is unlikely to remove all the debris.

Did you replace the fuel filter when you returned it to road?

Good to see another Storm getting back on the road, not may left now of the 250 in blue ever made.

Really appreciate the input from everyone, didn't know it was that rare!

Before driving I had the following done (Please let me know if there is any common faults I have missed).

New cambelt kit, tensioner, drive belt etc.
Replaced front discs and pads
Full service
Tyre x2
New battery
Replaced fuel filter, drained old fuel etc.

Got through Mot with minor corrosion advisories.

Need to address the elec windows this summer and tr solve a slight misfire if possible on a 30plus year old car with 130k on the clock.

If you haven't already done so, I'd replace the wheel cylinders in the rear brakes, and flush and replace the brake fluid and coolant. There will be niggles that become apparent as you start to drive it.

Unless it's been done recently, you'll probably find it will be a whole lot better to drive if you replace all the suspension bushes. Age and a lot of time laid up will mean the ones on the car are likely to be hard and perished.

What's wrong with the electric windows? If they work, but are slow, they will probably be a lot better if you clean and regrease the mechanisms.

Wow - that's great to see another Storm saved!

The last time I checked, VW still had some stock on the necks, at least in the States and in Germany. The problem is they are expensive. The part number is 533-201-129C.

There is an alternate part - 533-201-129D which also works, although you need a different fuel cap and connecting hose going between the tank and the neck.

She looks very original and rare on an A plate. You join a very small and exclusive group ! 300 in cosmos blue were made and 300 in havana brown. Rumours are that there are only about a dozen of each left (including mine) Dr Dub or the Register team should be able to confirm how many they know of and it is a question I have been meaning to ask for a while. Enjoy.
