Fitting fuel pump and switch

Post by Mk2_phil »

Hi Everyone,

I am considering adding an electronic fuel pump, regulator and rollover switch to my 1.6 GT.
A series of Mechanical pump issues in the past and fuel delivery issues has made me think about having a more reliable pump source.

I have spec'd up an image of how I am thinking of installing the system.
Could anyone who has done this or know how point me in the right direction - is this the correct way to install. Also, I know the switch wiring is vague, so any pointers there would be handy.

Many Thanks,
Phil

seems ok but you need to change your wiring, rather than coming from the battery to the roll over switch then to your fuel pump i would wire the battery to a relay and then to the pump.
to turn the relay on take an igntion live feed to the roll over switch and to the relay then from relay to earth.
this way when you turn on the ignition the feed will go through the roll over switch and providing its ok then go through the relay to earth, this in turn switches the relay on giving a battery feed to the pump.
make sure you fuse everything.

Thanks for the reply.

I am still trying to figure out what is going to be the best safety device (Rollover[inertia] or Oil pressure switch)
Had a think about the wiring earlier. And the oil pressure switch I am thinking of fitting recommends a Momentary Switch as a primer for the pump. Got a diagram of how I think it would be wired. Ive pieced it together from other installs people have done as I can't find one specifically like this.

I want the Momentary Switch to complete the circuit so the pump sends fuel to the carb, then when the momentary switch is released and I start the engine the oil pressure switch obviously then operates at above 5psi (or min operating pressure) and means that power goes to the pump until the power is turned off again.

How does the wiring look?

i didnt use the oil pressure switch because like you said you will need a prime switch
instead i used one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FUEL-PUMP-INE ... Sw8w1X6-pM
which used to be common on rovers and older fords if you can find one in the scrap yard
this switch will allways be closed unless knocked or turned over and can be reset if tripped.

and yes your wiring looks ok :ok:
