question on manuals and keys

Post by vpreynolds »

hi does anyone have an original gt2 and would you share what original keys came with the car and photograph the manual set you have. I'm trying to add the final ocd touches to mine. I would like to know what my 1990 t2 should have come with roughly thanks.

From new there would be two keys (as pictured) and a thin black metal tag with the key code number stamped on.

I think they're AH after 88 for the most part.

Now you say that I think your right, AH on my 88 Mk1 Golf and HV on the 78 Mk1 Scirocco.
I've not got the Golf keys with me to check as I'm in the Scirocco and the Scirocco ones don't have anything on them!

AH key again lots on ebay.

Doesn't look like there is much in it between the profiles, Left is an HV, right is an AH, middle is a blank AH. Looks like the HV has a taper in the second groove.

keys and manual again.

Post by vpreynolds »

I appreciate the previous help but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. if anyone has a 1990 gt2 knowing that it has its perfectly original set of keys and manual may I have a photo.
even if yours is not a gt2 please and thank you.
I'm going anal and want to put together an original key and manual set even the key tag I'll be reproducing.
my biggest concern isn't getting what I need rather finding out what I do need
people tell me that I'm supposed to only have two vw keys but the manual I have shows a third "s[pare" key that doesn't open the glove box/ sound familiar?
thanks all.

Yes, the keys will all be the round 80s design as previously shown. The third key is slightly different and is wholly metal with no plastic on it. It doesn't open the glovebox lock and was meant to be the service key that you gave to VW to stop them noseying through your stuff. I'm not sure what the manuals looked like by then, I think it was a grey wallet rather than the blue of earlier cars. Key ring fobs would be dealer issue so no standard design.

Having said that about the keys, none of my Sciroccos nor my Golf has the service key.

My Golf, an '89 F-plate has AH profile keys, whilst my Sciroccos (all '86 or earlier) all have HV profile. I'm pretty sure a GTII would have AH profile keys - unless you've only got repro keys, the code will be on your keys. If you're rally struggling, VW should be able to help you with the chassis number. The key blanks are available from VW Classic Parts.

I would very much appreciate the photos of an original service key and manuals from that date of the gt2. mine came from the Manchester dealership so if anyone's number plate ends in NE I would love to see your manuals/ every bit of literature the dealer gave you or you have.
don't worry about sending me info on obtaining parts. I can get anything I please I just need to know what to get first. what is original. if somebody has a service key I would really appreciate seeing it and deciphering what exactly about the keys cut stops the glove box opening.

couldn't you have just removed the first topic? It was sort of a failed start and now my second attempt at getting the info will probably get pushed down as this one is older and already "answered".
