Post by alicarv96 »

i am looking at going twin weber 40's on my 1.8 ex gt2. could someone point me in the direction of a company that can fit and set up the carbs correctly. the engine will get rebuilt with ported and polished head before the twin carbs.

You can buy manifolds to bolt bike carbs on, few carb specialists around the UK who can set up. But probably best you learn to do this as no doubt you'll need to be adjusting them every few months anyhow!

call a guy called alan at carb care. if you drive the car to him he can fit and set it all up for you or for a fee he might travel to you.
he sorted many of my cars out and is very knowledgeable.

Twin DCOE's might be a bit overkill on a stock carb head, I think you'd need to get an uprated cam and head porting to get the benefit. Personally I'd go with Dells but I guess Webers are more plentiful secondhand. Bike carbs are used mainly as throttle bodies in custom injection setups, haven't seen them used as actual carbs but I've been off the dub scene for a while :-)

The use of bike carbs, as carbs, is becoming quite popular. Mainly due to how cheap you can get a decent sized set for. Not just in the VW scene either.

its not the only reason, the benefit of webbers is felt mostly in full throttle applications and rather naff for everyday on the road driving.
they are difficult to set up and only worth while if you have it done professionaly at a rolling road.
bike carbs are much easier to set up as theres much more scope for DIY setup and use plus many bike carbs have stromburg/su style design so are self regulating to incoming vacuum of the engine and much more forgiving for it.
if you ring around specialists they will tell you the same and as rightly pointed out webers are a pointless exercise without having work done to the engine to improve flow.
if your using a carb engine then im presuming the weber carbs are going to be sitting above a red hot exhaust?
the best person to talk about this is alex (risocco) hes done the conversion and will be able to help you and give advice on this subject.
