One other place to look for a leak in the boot is around the bolts which hold the bottom of the hatch struts in place. There is a little rubber O ring under each bolt and they deteriorate over time. I don't think it is extremely common, but it happens - just a thought.

Very nice Scirocco! Really like the color and interior too!

Looks like idling problem may be fixed!
Took it to a the garage its always gone to (with the previous owners as well), they fiddled around and 'upped the idle' however made the problem worse. (thank god they didn't charge me)

Then took it to a old chap who runs a old VW specialist garage, and he completely re-tuned the carb. Seems to be running v well now. Idles around 1000 drops to 750ish with full beam, radio, fan etc.

He mentioned the Distributor was worn and the rotor arm was a bit loose, said it should be solid, said it needs replacing soon

Where should I start to look RE distributors? Can't seem to find a new one from BOSCH or the french brand which escapes me at the moment. Should I look into refurbing the current one? Haven't heard great things from the cheap ones from GSF etc.

Cheers

Found time to replace the rear clusters toaday, slightly worried about leakage as the old lights had some extra sealant around the oringinal seals, but hopefully it'll be alright.

Managed to get hold of a distributor, S/N 026905206AD should be alright? Right?

Looking good - moved to this projects section, it'll be a better spot to show how you're progressing.
