Heater controls - hot or very hot!

Post by Spirantho »

HI everybody,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum as it's more mechanical than electrical, but I guess the fan is electrical and I couldn't find a better place!

My 'rocco has two kinds of cooling from its interior fan - you can either have it hot or very hot, it seems.

I've taken a look at the valve and even bought a replacement, and I've noticed the replacement goes down further than the furthest my current one goes when I move the panel controls. This is my car set to its coolest setting.

Can anybody help or am I doomed to driving with the window open whenever it's vaguely warm? :)

Thanks

When you say you have replaced the valve is it this one?

Have you put the new on in the right way round?

I take it your heater slider goes all the way to the left (cold)...If not and it feels as if it bounces then one of the screws that holds the heater slider / controls
has fallen out. Had this prob myself..
Also on the heater valve, diconnect the cable and move the arm on the valve all the way to the drivers side then check your heater to see if cold is blowing out.

Thanks for the replies!

I haven't actually changed the valve yet - there's no point if it's the controls not the valve that's causing the problem, and I figured best sort out the controls possibility first (less mess from coolant!).

The hot/cold slider shown above is at full coldness! As you can see, it's nowhere near fully to the left. It doesn't feel that it bounces, though, it just doesn't move to either extremity, hot or cold, it just covers the middle half of the range...

Anyone got any more useful replies than Nate's? :P

Looks like it's time for a bit of investigation, then... but can someone just confirm how far the hot/cold switch should move? I'm assuming it should move all the way to the left/right, am I correct?

Thanks!

yes it should move all the way to the L/R

mine sticks in roughly the same place but i can push it all the way to the left with a wee bit off effort

just be careful not to break anything?

Still looking at this problem...

The only thing I can see that may not be right is in this photo...

That's the hot/cold selector, and at the left side of the rod you can see the clip which is attached to the valve via the wire into the engine bay.
What strikes me as weird is that there's over an inch of wire below the switch, and then there's a kink at the very end of the wire, a few millimetres from the end. It looks like this kink should be against the lever, which would give the wire over an inch more slack, which may be why I can't pull it to either extremity. If you can see what I mean.

Can this be the problem? I've tried pushing the wire through the lever a bit but it won't budge. Should I try harder? What's it supposed to look like? Could this be causing the lack of movement all the way?

Thanks again for any help. :)

mine did that wen i first got it. If you wiggle it back to the right wen it reaches that point then go left again it works. If its the same as mine that is.
However mine still doesnt got completely cold but its better and thats what windows are for.
