Re: 87 Black GTX
I think 160 mph clocks come from a 16v Scirocco/golf, not that they would go that fast

Re: 87 Black GTX
Yeah i thought it was a bit optimistic
Got some new tyres but not sure i like the look. Wheels are 8 and 9j and had 185/45/15 and 195/45/15 which is now 195/50/15 and 205/50/15 hides the wheels a little and takes away from the look the car had, may put the 195 on the rear and have 185/50/15 on the front and get more subtle stretch than before.
the original tyres were well below the std rolling radious and messed up the speedo

A few more things
Changed for clear indicators & repeators.

Also found this, a sign of lower days

Also tested the speedo against a sat nav, the polo was bang on but this was out by 10%

Re: 87 Black GTX
Even running standard wheels old VW speedos seem to over read, my golf over reads.

Re: 87 Black GTX
Yeah i expected it to be so but i think the satnav factors in 10% which is why the polo was spot on. Also noticed the needle doesnt sit on zero so some adjustments.
Probably try some spare clocks

Re: 87 Black GTX
Looking at the picture of the speedo above I think the needle should line up with the thin line just below the pin unused as a stop, if you very carfully lift the needle over the pin it should sit on the line.
If you do want to remove the needle I placed some thin card on the face of the speedo so not to scratch it and used a table fork to prise it off.
I did this on my Mk1 after having to dismantle the speedo as the miles stopped turning over as the cogs was slipping on the shaft.

I drove and checked mine on the satnav, made the dash look very simple!

Re: 87 Black GTX
Ok there has been progress this
Added these parts to the conversion:
• scirocco 16v inlet
• scirocco 16v loom
• 16v 45° dizzy to clear brake res
• 16v waterpipe
• abf scirocco 421 stainless manifold
• 16v kjet fuel lines
May relocate and change the expansion tank as that side of the bay is packed. Probably use a smaller polo gt one

As you can see its all still pretty messy in there at the mo

Re: 87 Black GTX
That's close to your steering UJ boot, I would wrap that as they can catch fire if they get to hot!
I used a plumbers mat from ebay for a couple of £'s and I also wrapped my manifold DX engine 4 to 1 manifold.
The matt I bought
