Mk 1 bumper refurd

Post by silverpilot »

Have now had my 1980 Gli serviced, MOT'd, taxed. I drove to the body shop to have the bonnet sorted, that brought back the memories, not driven it for 26 years, wow is it that long. Hopefully some one can help with the method of refurbing the black plastic / rubber bumpers which are a stripey grey and blackish colour and it would be nice to bring them back to original state / colour. Would rather leave them than end up with some shinny black 'plastic' finish as everything else is as was be a shame to spoil it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Clean them, then use a heatgun (or a reasonably powerful hairdryer), then use any of the bumper-restoring products. I generally use Autoglym products, but most of them are fine. You might need to give it a few goes, and regular repetition of the last stage will help.

Don't paint them.

Lots of guides etc on youtube, on different car though but you will get the idea but DO NOT GET IT TO HOT or they will melt.
