Where to get some bits?
Where to get some bits?
I have just got myself a nice Storm, pics are in the area above
It is in quite good nick for a 35 year old car, but inevitably there are a few things I would like to get sorted. I hope you helpful chaps can guide me!
The 'chrome' surrounds of the front and rear screens are quite bad, they are plastic. what is the best thing to do to get them looking presentable?
It came with only one key, looking on line they are quite easy to get. But I need to know which profile is used on a 1980 Scirocco?
Thanks in advance
Russ

Re: Where to get some bits?
Welcome to the forum reynard55
The windscreen trim is tricky to find, I think there was a thread on here about using some from a Mk1 golf plastic trim but not sure if it fitted?
Early cars (upto about 78) used chrome metal trim but it's hard to find and a right pain to fit, I had to refit mine when the glass was out of the car for a respray but with plenty of pushing and straightening out the trim it fitted.
It's not the sort of thing which can be posted unless they have a very big box the size of 1/2 a windscreen (come in 2 halfs) as you really need to keep it in it's original shape.
Edit. Just spotted this.

Re: Where to get some bits?
Thanks for the help
I have ordered a spare key
just need to track down some of these trims, I'm not too fussed about total originality, but would like it to look presentable.
I read somewhere on here that the Mk1 Golf stuff is too narrow, but if it tidies the windows up and keeps the screen in it may be OK
will try PMing Mr Mender as suggested in the other post you linked to

Re: Where to get some bits?
Have you tried the chrome trim for classic mini wheelarches? You used to be able to buy it on a roll.
Just checked and you still can. Ebay item 371234654705 you'd need to check sizes though

Re: Where to get some bits?
Hi, did you get anywhere with this trim ? Also having problems with mine. I'm tempted by cal style seals with no grove from Classic Rubber from America but the are $110 + postage

Re: Where to get some bits?
My local halfords have rolls of chrome trim on the shelf. Assorted profiles and sizes. Not all on the website though
Re: Where to get some bits?
I managed to get a set of the earlier aluminium trims. Cost an arm and a leg, but it does look much better for it!
