Due to lack of interest from this forum I have now listed this Scirocco on both Gumtree and AutoTrader.

Slightly surprised by the lack of interest in the car. A few chancers, but nothing serious. Is the price too high? It seems pretty fair based on other Roccos in the UK...

It doesn't look at all too high to me personally, but maybe the category D write off which is listed on Autotrader could put some people off? Just out of curiosity, is this accurate and if so, what was the damage? I'm not looking to buy, I should point out!

Thanks for your response. I had thought potentially the same thing...

Yes, this is accurate. The car was involved in a collision on Christmas morning a good few years ago. Someone pulled out from a side-street and in the icy conditions I couldn't get stopped in time. There was a small impact to the driver-side front corner. I have a photo of the damage. Due to the value of the car at the time they wrote it off. But because I loved it, I bought it back from the insurer and had a specialist take care of the repairs. It needed a new headlamp & indicator, and the bonnet and front wing needed some repairs. Finally a respray was done (to an incredible standard) and it was as good as before. It was thoroughly checked over, has passed many MOTs since and drives as well as ever.

sorry to say but being a cat d will most likely be your issue.
even if it was the best car in the world most people are simply put off when they see cat d unless the price draws them in.

i live in a house that i had underpinned because the council only gave the houses in my street 6 inches of foundation, mine was subsiding so i had it underpinned and extended so technically is stronger than all the other houses in the street, yet when i had it valued, because of the underpinning it was worth £17000 less than a house without underpinning, even though theres nothing wrong with it and you would never guess now it had had subsidence.

i hope it sells buddy as that is a really nice looking car and if it drives half as well as it looks then people should be able to see past the cat d label.

I dont mind project cars but I HATE SANDING!!!

Thanks. I'm sure someone will. I suppose it's a fairly small market too. I don't think I'll ever understand the popularity of Golfs over Sciroccos...

Same here I hope it sells as it looks a lovely modified mk 2.This is what I thought about the Golf's over the Sciroccos just because the mk 1 golf g.t.i sold more then the mk 1 Scirocco V.W decide to carrying on building the golf and no more Scirocco's after the mk 2 besides the vw Corrado. There was talk of a new vw Corrado from V.W but never happened so the new Scirocco was built.

Which looks like a squished golf when you park them side by side together of the same age. It is very good V.W have brought a new model out atleast the Scirocco desert name lives on.But people do not know the history of the car's and that the first sports coup built before the V.W MK 1 Scirocco was the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia built from 55-74 here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Karmann_Ghia

Yeah, Karmann Ghia's are lovely. I'm a big fan of all the air-cooled era vee-dubs too (as well as Sciroccos).

Looks like a good one.
Being a CAT D will no doubt be putting people off as many don't understand how easy it is to 'write' off' an older car.
Maybe you should keep it
