Oil Pressure

Post by unknownmale »

Just checking to see if my readings are normal for my 1.8 EX engine.

From cold I'm seeing 5 bar (Around 70PSI) of oil pressure then, once warmed up (Around 70c / 75c) It drops to just above 1 bar.

I am using 20w 50 semi synthetic...I'm thinking I should drop down to a 10w over winter as the 20w 50 is perhaps too thick for the cold?

Think most people run 10/40 semi, assuming its a standard engine that isn't a mega miler.

The oil pressure should be a minimum of 2 bar with the temperature at 80 degrees at 2000rpm

If it is just above 1 bar at idle and at operating temperature, i would say that is normal but check pete's advice when at 2000rpm.

also, don't forget that if it does have low poressure at tickover and has done some high miles, that isn't necessarily cause for concern, so long as it is giving good pressure when driving.
