Gearbox question

Post by monzajake »

The gearbox on the monza is on it way out crunching in 2nd & 4th. I have a spare which is from a mk3 golf 2ltr 8 valve rod change.
Has or is anyone using the same box on a kr or abf. If so what does it pull like ie does it scream it cogs off or seem well suited.
Don't what to fit it if it's not that well matched !
The code on the box which im using now (fitted to car) has had it's code ground off so I can't compere them !

If you can read the code on the new box you can find out the gear ratios and from that work out roughly how fast you will be going in each gear at any particular engine speed. Doesn't really help with knowing how the car drives but you can probably use it to compare against the box you've got.

I have links to gearbox code ratios and a gear calculator on my pc I will try and post them up later if you want.

Ben.

I'm using one on mine and it makes the car a bit more relaxed to drive, longer ratios and less gear changing in general. Sits at about 3k rpm at 70 instead of 3.5 which is a useful drop.
