Inner rear arch repair and rear valance

Post by Reverend Frog »

Hi all, i know this has been gone over before but need to confirm.

Took the car (early mk2, no bodykit) up to the bodyshop today for them to assess what needs done. have outer arch panels but the inner arch is also kiboshed and need those done too.

I also need the rear valance

so my question is, will the mk1 golf arches and mk1 scirocco panels available on VW Heritage do the trick?

Thanks

Rick

My Storm had it's rear arches repaired using Mk1 Golf inners. What does the bodyshop say? Mine were done by a VW specialist who knows his way around Sciroccos.

the bodyshop i took it to has been around since the 50s and gets an excellent write-up on the local VW and BMW forums etc. they show their work on facebook and there are plenty of old air-cooleds, etc. the guy talking to me was in his 60s so i'm sure he knows what he's at

he says he could fabricate the inner arch to meet the new outer (repair panels I've got already) but he'd prefer a part.

he's going to have to look at the rear valance for me as well, but just the lower lip, so i thought the heritage mk1 pattern part would do

Sounds like a decent place.

Have you asked Ant?

I can't imagine your rear valance is so shot that it would be a complicated repair to fabricate. You'd be better off with a mk2 panel for that (which are available, at a price), although there are different versions of the mk2 rear valance and I suspect the later version is the one you can buy. The mk1 rear valance is very different.

Rick, Mk1 Golf inner wheel tubs will fit with a bit of fettle. Heritage can supply you with either the inner arch lip repair panels, or 'rear wheel housing outer' which is more substantial. The wheel tubs are made of an inner and outer part.

Complete OEM tubs are also available, but overkill for the bit of rot you have I suspect!

A complete rear mk2 valance should be obtainable from VW classic parts, hopefully.
