Anyone fitted child car seat in mk2???

Post by Konrad »

Hi, has anyone ever fitted a rear facing child seat in a mk2? I have non retractable 3 point belts and before changing them didn't know if there were seats that fitted! Thanks all!

Yes, and I picked up the first born from the hospital in the back of the Rocco! Britax used to make a seat. It's designed to fit on an airplane if you are travelling with a baby. Hence it faces backwards and can be put in a back of a Rocco. Don't know if it's still made but is possible.

Britax eclipse or britax prince should do the job. Both fit in the back. The only kids car seat that sold in a snap once I had no more use for it.

Same here, my first wee lad was brought home from hospital in the mk2, have a pic and all :-D

I've the same seat whiteshark mentioned, does them from about 10mth or a year, Britax eclpise, it reclines too and can be fitted with static lapbelts even, we normally have it in middle of rear seat in wifes golf

Just had a look at these, they are both forward facing which according to the boss "isn't safe enough now"!

I have no experience of child seats but Recaro are probably the top brand out there, so maybe worth a look at their products?

If it's passed the whatever it is safety tests, then it is.

It's because the Britax eclipse is forward facing is where the problem lies, in a crash or heavy braking the baby's head gets throw forward and being only 11 months there necks are not strong enough, so that's why you use a rearward facing seat. Britax do list it for 9 months to 4 years but like your wife I would not put my young child in it till they are older, my son was about 18 months before I used the eclipse car seat.
I use a Britax eclipse in my Mk1 Golf Cabriolet and Mk1 Scirocco as I've only got lap belts in the rear and my Son is 2 so not a problem. The wife used to sit in the back and the rearward facing baby seat (Britax Maxi Cosy style of seat) used to fit in the front when he was younger.

What car seat do you have at the moment and why can't you fit it to your Mk2 with 3 point seat belts, seat belt not long enough?

Lot's of Britax eclipse on ebay at the moment

Britax baby carrier fits in just in my Scala, that seat is rear facing.

Start off slow and methodical, that doesn't work so shout curse and hit it till it works.

Mark1gls, you got it! Exactly why we want rear facing and yes belts not long enough, have fixed belts so may end up changing them if needs be but was thinking there may have been one on the market! Have now found a few that may fit but trying to find some one that stocks them in cornwall is another problem!

If you do change your rear seat belts to Inertia Reel type just make sure they are still long enough, my wife's 2001 honda civic rear seat belts are only just long enough to go around the Britax maxi cosi seat it's such a pain to get the seat belt to fit we went out and got a isofix base to fit the car seat to and it make fitting the seat alot easier.
I was looking into a isofix bracket but I think you will need to remove the fuel tank to get a good fixing and not sure how it will fit.
There was someone on the Mk1 Golf owners club who fitted the isofix mount to there car but the Golf cabriolet has a big metal bar behind the rear seat to add strength.
