Xenon conversion kits

I see Euro Car Parts are offering pairs of Bosch plus 90 bulbs at £9.99, supposedly discounted from £29.99, and Osram Nightbreaker Plus at £14.99 a pair, discounted from £19.98.

The Nightbreakers won Auto Express's bulb group test with the Bosch getting marked down for poor consistency but they were testing H7 not H4, anyone on here tried either of them?

Both claim to put 90% more light on the road.

I've used the Osram nightbreakers in a few cars and been happy with them.

Using Nightbreakers in a relayed setup on mine. Even with the tiny GTI headlights, they're still better than most other cars i've driven. Highly recommended.

Couldn't you just have hid conversion on just main beam inner spots?
Or even fog lights?

I've been watching this with interest & now that the darker nights are here, coupled with the shite new street lamps around here, I've decided to go the Osram Nightbreaker route coupled with relays.

A quick question before I order...do I need H4's for all 4 bulbs or are the inners different? It's a '91 GT2.

Inners are H1.

Well worth doing, the relays made a hell of a difference.

I also changed the bulbs to Nightbreaker Unlimiteds...brilliant.

One oddity though, my inners turned out to be H3's.

I said this a few months ago, having read it in Haynes - what I didn't understand at the time was that there are two double-headlight set-ups, and that one of them uses H1 and one H3.

If I'm interpreting ETKA/VAGCAT correctly, the type that uses H1 has two identically-size lamp-housings, while the one that uses H3 has a smaller inner lamp-housing, both use H4 in the outer lamp-housing...

...and having just popped out into the dark and the rain - sure enough, my GTL, with the smaller inner lamps, has H3 bulbs (with the wire, whereas the H1 bulbs I bought don't have wires).

Do the Nightbreakers draw any more current as part of the extra brightness ? .. or is it just the funky xenon gas formula. I was thinking of putting H4 nightbreakers in without relays, but don't want to fry my switch/wiring.

i've just bought a set of h4 osram nightbreakers, and they still claim to be 60/55w same as "normal" bulbs. i'm guessing any improvement in light output is to do with the alchemy inside the bulb
