MK2 Scirocco Bonnet Sound "Waffle" Pads?

Post by Oggy »

I'm new to the Forum but own a MK2 1987 Scala that I've had for nearly 25 years.
It is pretty mint and has not been on the road since it was 11 years old, thus having a very low mileage.
I'm looking at recomissioning my car to show next year (I hope), it doesn't need too much but one thing that has fell to bits through age is the "Waffle" material under the bonnet that is triangular shape and acts as sound proofing.
As I'm a stickler for thinks been original can these still be bought from VW or does any member have a source for these please.

Dave

Sadly no longer available even from Classic Parts.

I've just fitted a set to one of my cars this weekend and have kept the backing sheets in order to get some copies made up - we have in the past supplied donor cars to Newton Commercial re interior trim - they need chasing now that I have the backing sheets available as an easy to post template.

So are you getting some remanifactured?.
If so I'll have a set (or even two sets and keep one as a spare).
Let me know, how much do they cost?
Money waiting :beg:

Porsche used the same material on some of their cars and they are still available. I used two pads from a 928, cut to fit the Scirocco hood because I wanted to restore the original factory look. The 928 pads were not cheap, but it worked out very well. Pelican Parts in the States have the pads, but I'm sure you can find a source in the UK easier. As others have said, if you just wanted the insulation for sound and heat protection, there are much less expensive ways to go. But if you want to restore the factory look, this worked well.

Regards,
Tom

Have followed up with Newtons - their other stuff is good quality and not too pricey either.

A response from newtons, interested.

I'll report back with progress and then start a thread to gauge initial interest to help with pricing or even a group buy where people are definite.
