Full beams won't turn off

Post by Jack92 »

And here we go again with another annoying issue..

Put the column back together today and it turns out the full beams are on. So pull the stalk to turn then off and it doesn't appear to do anything. The indicators ect work but the full beam doesn't.

Would you think it would be a new stalk job?

Thanks

Could be the stalk, I have a spare we could try mate. It could also be the relay or switch, which again I have spares to try.

Not off the top of my head, I would need to consult the Haynes but I am 23 miles away from it! Pretty sure the headlights have a relay?

There's a clip on the switch that doesn't always seat when you put it all back together i would check that 1st?

it's a bit like a hook, been there before.

Couldn't work out what you meant Danny.

Also is the switch on the wiper stalk or the indicator stalk? Looks to me it's on the indicator one and just pushed by the other one.

Also couldn't work out what relay they are (Haynes manual didn't say anything) or even if they have one

Did discover if you pull the fuse the dash light also goes out

Does appear that a relay contact has burnt out on my fuse box but apparently this is for the inlet manifold preheater or fuel pump relay.

The Haynes do mention the relay location and what they do Jack, in the electrical section after fuses.

The headlights do not have a relay from the factory.

Ah ok great thanks, guessing it's a switch issue then.

Is the switch itself on the mfa stalk do you know?

Main beam and flasher is on the Indicator stalk, not the MFA stalk, although they do clip together.
And Ian is pretty good at putting stalks back together - after he has pulled them apart
