pierburg help

Post by jond »

hi Right hopefully sorted the engine running on by adjusting the cam one notch The rocco now seems to run better and when upto temp wont continue to run on when switched off Now another little issue to keep me busy , When warm the car idles at 1150rpm much too high done alot of research and its either wax stat not opening fully thus not opening the cam fully or adjustment next to wax stat(small allen key) My questions are how do i test the wax stat and where is cheapest to get one from if i need one vw heritage are 100 quid(gulp) I think this area is where the problem lies been reading that the cam needs to openfully then the 3/4 unit takes over but this 3/4 unit just doesnt move (constant tiny gap next to grub screw) feel like i have made progress on the car and well chuffed about setting the timing up and changing the belt(famous last words haha) also i know about the o ring in the inlet not allowing water through auto choke housing gets red hot after a few mins running but is there any way to check if the waxstat is getting correct flow of water any info would be great thanks jon

Have a look at this thread which has a link to the official Pierburg manual. Apparently it should also be in the 'links and tuners' section, courtesy of ianaudia4 but I don't know where that is!

Also, hate to be picky, but your post was quite hard to read, would have been easier to read if you'd put a few blank lines in to break it up - just sayin', sorry! :-)

As regards my post i do try to make it easy to read,I have started using capitals And leaving spaces but sometimes when i post it just lumps the text all together
As a single dad with 2 kids i must admit i was rushing when writing that last post , As i has to get them ready for bed at the same time, will leave the computer stuff till later next time , haha , many thanks again jon

Right spent some time on the car today
first off Checked the waxstat when the car is warming up it gradually pushes the cam round into the full open position
Ive got a spare carb so i checked how it works and when the cam opens fully there is a click as the throttle slots in and the cam engages . This isnt happening on my car as the 3/4 unit is stopping it because it is extended to 13mm or so , this must be the problem
I checked all power supplies(which have had all new connectors) full power so all ok there
Then i read up that there should be a click when ttv and idle valve thingy are connected idle valve clicks but the ttv doesnt when they have power then i removed the 3/4 unit and was able to manually push the wax stat lever round so the cam was fully open deffo the 3/4 unit stopping the idle from dropping below 1100rpm because it isnt allowing the cam to engage
any tips on how to test the 3/4 unit its stuck out about 18mm then only moves in about 4mm when car is running thus stopping the cam engaging and keeping the revs high cheers jon

HI quick update for anyone who is interested , first off I loosened of the grub screw that rests on the 3/4 unit then started the car from cold , when it had warmed up the waxstat opened fully and the revs settle down to 900rpm
if I then add load to the engine ie switch on the heater and lights the revs drop to 500rpm so I will adjust the grub screw so it is just resting on the 3/4 unit when warmed up and hope that it all works ok and the revs stay at 900rpm constantly

funds are tight at the moment so I cant just go out and buy a webber so ive just had to persevere with the pierburg , will be an expert on it when I am finished haha!!
could do with a working 3/4 unit though if anyone has got one
