just looking for your advice on going nuts

right its time to start the build. mk2 scirocco and im thinking of a 2ltr block with a 16v head but im wanting to run 40z or 45z, with the best cam i can get .
looking for info on the best cam to get and what head and block will be best to use. info on companies selling what i will need and companies for machining work to heads such as port polish and new valve seats. is their anywhere i could buy a engine thats fully done? any info would be great

TSR have been in the VW scene for yonks, well known and well respected.

TSR are local to me when Tim Styles was running the company back in the 80's and 90's they was helpful and well priced used them a few times for bits and setting up familes cars. I took my car to them (Golf I have now) as injectors needed changing and they said I should get the car all set up on the rolling once fitted, I agreed. Tim Styles had handed his company over to someone else (I belive his sons?) and the work carried out was shocking, 3 of my injectors was not fitted properlly they was nearlly hanging out, I could see from the back of the engine and had to push them home, I said I had changed the fuel filter before I brought the car in and they changed it again and tried to charge me for it. The rolling road was not able to "print out the results as the printer had broke" I don't think they even put it on the rolling road or tuned it as timing etc was were I left it when it went in but could of not needed doing...
I have not been back since and don''t want to use the company again. All this happened about 10 years ago so they might have got better but I would not use there garage service again...
Just my opinion on the company.. rant over

My cousin works there and they do a good job on convertions to regular servicing to advice on getting more power. My cousin started off with a Mk2 golf with a VR6 he then superchrged it, got feed up with that engine and weight of it and has now gone down the 1.8 turbo with a bigger turbo for even more go... 330 bhp !

i have moved home lads. inverness is still a 2 hour drive

I've hot a spare mr lump sat here if you go down that route.
One thing I'll say about using high lift cams is that they are lumpy as f**k. They sound great but the idle can be irattic and juddery. I'm calming mine down as I'm bored of it constantly sounding like it'll cut out, the real power only coming on at 3.5k and the juddering (the cam was already in the engine. It's already p and p'd). Plus, with carbs you're fuel economy will be arse.
For the money you're looking at spending I'd be looking at 1.8t. Economical, tunable and quick.

hi again mrfunk i dont want to 1.8 t.. to much bother and dosh. im looking at the biggest or best cam i can get with 40z fuel economy isnt an issue.. 185 cam? how do the numbers on aftermarket camshafts work? anything to do with the degrees? u may be bored of the highlift cam but it may just be me but i like the sound of it picking up and almost cutting out lol ( i may get bored of it in a few years lol) after all its all a learning curve :-D
