DX stop when hot.. won't start!

Post by joshiggins »

When my engines warmed up, if you stop the engine and try to start it again within a couple of minutes it won't start - the starter chugs very slowly like the battery is flat. After 5 mins it will start fine. Starts every time when cold. I was thinking the starter motor was on it's way out but found this thread http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carf ... 12&t=15441 which is making me think otherwise...

are there any usual suspects for the DX engine?

not sure how much of that advice relates from a KR engine but mentions of earth straps, injector leaks and accumulators.... not sure where to start on this one.

any advice appreciated, cheers!

I'm going to say starter motor as I've had exactly the same symptoms. I'd made sure the wiring to the starter was good with clean shiny terminals, same for the earth from the gearbox to the battery. Fitted a new battery to replace the big diesel one I had been using and it became harder to start. New Bosch starter from ECP and problem solved, wish I'd done it years ago.

Yeah changed the timing belt and tensioner about 3 months back.... Come to think of it I can't say I noticed this problem before that. At the time it was making a skitting noise as though the belt was too tight so slackened it off a bit (not too much!) and the noise went away

Its your cam timing thats a tooth out. the cam is closing the inlet valve too soon. recheck the timing marks.with the cam pulley timing mark in the correct position I will guarantee that the 2 pulley marks on the crankshaft and intermediate will not be correctly alined.let me know
