Seejay wrote:Brilliant - thanks for the update! It's good to know that the story the bloke told me was true and backed up by the history file for it! Matt was the guy who bought it from you apparently - he took the bump strips off and put some aftermarket OZ wheels on I believe... Unless that was yourself? Either way it's a credit to its previous owners. I bought it blind to be honest so it was a bit of a silly gamble but it seems to have paid off. The only thing I have noticed is that one of the rear arches/body kit is screwed on with a different type of screw to the other side and the screws have started to rust a little. I've had the arch off and there is no sign of damage or anything so not sure what has happened there? I'm on the hunt for original screws anyway - the ats are temporary I think as I would like to get it back to original soon!
I didnt mod it in anyway when i had it, i was planning to just gararge it and then take it shows, ive got a track mk2 so this was meant to be my standard example.
Its mostly down to the old man next door, i was gutted to sell it because he could no longer see it then. I can tell him its being well looked after anyway :)

Not sure about the screws to be honest, i dont remember. iirc the steels needed a slight refurb to be back to their best. Have you still got the service key too (opens all dorrs except the glovebox)? I sold it with the car so i hope you have it. Its little things like that i like, when buying a properly well cared for car.

Yeah the steels are in my garage awaiting a refurb but I do like the ats which I took off my old car. Yeah got the service key and put all the receipts and that into a file now in date order. I love all that business - a bit sad I know! I am planning on attending a few shows in the new year. Yeah assure the man that it is in safe hands! He's always welcome to have a look if he's ever lucky enough to pass through stoke - as are you!

I'm only being a complete perfectionist with the screws! The only other thing is I have no rear view mirror fitted at the moment as the front windscreen was replaced and it's a nightmare to get back on and stay on! I'm surprised there has been a dog in it - no tell tale signs haha.

Yeah shame you had to get rid. I did look on the history and did wonder why the last two owners had got rid of it so soon but that's put my mind at rest now :)

Thank you, thats very kind :) I hope to start attending some shows next year after i get my rocco road registered again so i might see it there too.

There was alot of carpets and rugs kept it the car (proper 70's styling!) so the cloth never got touched or exposed to sunlight, plus the dog was only small, and sat on the parcel shelf every time i saw them out.

Are you going to be making a build thread for the car?
If you ever wanted the car detailing id love to help out :)

I hadn't thought of that to be honest - I take it that is putting pics up of any works I do? Sorry I am a bit of a novice on the forum side of things! Talking about the wheels has spurred me on to purchase some sanding equipment, primer, lacquer and spray paint for the wheels today mind (many thanks to the topic in the wheels section on here recommending the vauxhall paint as the closest match!

I would alway be happy for a bit of a hand with the detailing as it is not something that I will win any awards for! It's garaged at the moment away from the bad weather and rarely gets used so it's quite easy to keep clean.

Weather permitting I should have a crack at the steel wheels this weekend so il take some pics. Also il give it a clean and put some better pics on

Yeah there is a projects section on the forum for putting your updates and photos. Makes it easy to keep a little history of the car in your ownership. Ive got a few pictures of when i had the car, ill be happy to send them to you when i get back to the u.k in the new year.

No problem, i enjoy the really in depth detailing and paint correction etc, so if you intend to goto a show or something id be happy to help prepare the car.

Sounds good, wheels are a good place to start practicing your painting. Im sure you know but preperation is key and expecially as its getting cold i always put rattle cans in hot water to warm them up before sparying.

Great yeah that would be great to see some old photos. Definitely be interested in learning a bit of detailing from you too! Yeah the wheels will be a practice really. Not 100 percent sure how I am going to get the paint off as I only have sand paper at the moment. Could be a long day haha. Could do without spending big bucks on sandblasting though!

Sandpaper is quick enough on the steels, there not too detailed. Find yourself a cardboard box big enough to fit a wheel in, have the front open with a wheel in it and place a heater aiming heat into the box. Saves time between layers, especially in the winter months!

Yeah loving hearing a bit about the car! It would be good to see some old pics if any are about? I have done the wheel refurb and for an amateur like myself I have surprised myself! I will get some pics up once I get on the laptop!

Hey Syncro! Apologies for the delay! I will be there but the car won't be in the show and shine section I don't think this year! (Don't think they will let me after last time haha!). But it will be outside somewhere!
