Ha, well I've heard the E gear isn't really a 5th like normal gearboxes, and is really only for around town ?
How should it be used?
Do I only use 4th on the motorway?

The E means economy, it is for cruising i.e motorway driving!

You'll find when in 5th (E) you will not be doing many revs at 70mph (about 1,750rpm) in a Gti gear box at 70mph you will be a 3,500rpm. The Gti will be more responsive at 70mph, with your gearbox you will need to change down to 4th to accelerate then go back into 5th(E)
The plus side is you will use less petrol with 4+E at motorway speeds.
